The SoundTouch Philosophy
Wherever there is movement and wherever there is vibration, there is sound. Like everything in this universe our body is made up of vibrating energy. Even though it appears dense every cell of the human body has its own frequency. The healthy physical body is strongly inclined to be in harmony with itself, so that all the different parts of the body, all its cells, want to flow in unison but when this natural rhythm is disrupted in the body, stress and disorder occurs. The vibrations of the sound resonate within our bodies so that the cells themselves respond so that harmony can be restored.
An interesting mixture of experiences brought me to a deeper understanding of being more and more in the present moment including spending three years as an Army Officer. My one year backpacking around New Zealand and Australia was my initiation into massage as, in order to fund my trip, I was asked to give regular massages to a team of highly muscled rugby players - pleasing that it seemed to help their injuries and earn me some dollars!
In 1987 I started my first formal massage qualification, followed by reflexology and then advanced massage techniques so very much a background in the touch therapies.
In 1998 I met Jonathan Goldman pioneer of sound healing and experienced for the first time working with sound and vibration, this was truly life changing for me in that I experienced huge energetic shifts and focus within myself. Building on this experience, I started working with Peruvian mystic Don Americo Yabar, meeting annually during his visits to the North East of England.
Then in November 2006 I spent two intensive weeks learning, at Teacher Training level, the Metamorphic Technique with Gaston St Pierre. This developed in me a profound understanding and experience of the Universe and the principal of vibration which governs our very existence on Earth.
Which brings me to the YouTube video below, dancing with the shamanic women in Peru on my 49th birthday. The whole trip to Peru in 2008 was extraordinary in so many ways but it is the connection with the Universe that I made there that I bring into my sound work. The time in Peru coincided with the end of my Sound Healer Training at the College of Sound Healing and it was at the first Conference I attended one week after my return from Peru that I had my first Gong experience with Gongmaster Don Conreaux. This nearly toppled my gyros because they were Planetary Gongs and it was like being back in the Andes connected to the Universe.
I didn't need any further encouragement to start working with Gongs as part of my sound work and so all these aspects and experiences are embodied in the workshops and sessions I now offer.
My 49th Birthday which, according to the Mayan calendar, is a far more important birthday to celebrate than a 50th Birthday because it marks the end of the 7th seven year cycle (7X7 equals 49). It is considered a gateway to wisdom. At this time I was in Peru working with Don Americo Yabar and he arranged for this group of Medicine women of all ages to come and sing and dance to me for my Birthday.
They travelled many hours over the mountains to come and meet me. A most profound gift I can tell you.

I was fortunate enough to go over to the States and work with Jonathan Goldman on his nine-day Intensive Sound Seminar - truly life changing, energy and frequency shifting on every level and I came back so inspired to expand SoundTouch to encompass Sounds for Peace and Sacred Sounds Chanting Workshops. We have created the Sacred Shed to feel the silence and stillness of Nature for meditation and the Sound Lodge a 16 foot yurt, with wood burning stove, is now the venue for larger group Sacred Sound workshops.
Gratitude “For All My Relations” and A little bit of Peru in Northumberland
Peruvian Mystic Don Americo Yabar’s farewell message is always present in my mind “To bring with love and respect *“Salka” into everything we do, whether it is singing, writing, music, healing, poetry, art, walking, talking or sitting in silence”. His teaching of the Andean traditions continues to be a wonderful gift: to relate with love and respect to Nature at all times.
*Salka is an undomesticated, magic free living energy, like a wind that blows from the heavens to bring us in contact with the great mystery and beauty of existence.
As part of this reverence I was inspired to create my Sound Lodge which represents an opening of my heart to those who step inside. The overwhelming impulse to create a Sacred Sound space originated from our regular Sweat Lodges with Native American WaNaNeeChe several years ago. The Sweat Lodge represents the womb of Mother Earth for cleansing, healing and renewal and the Sweat Lodge naturally evolved into the Sound Lodge where we commune with Mother Earth, with ourselves and with each other through sacred sound.
I am deeply thankful for all the wisdom, resources, inspiration and teaching over the years with Gaston St Pierre (Metamorphic Technique), Simon Heather (College of Sound Healing), Jonathan Goldman (Harmonics and Sacred Sound), Don Conreaux (The way of the Gong), Fabien Maman (French Musician /Composer and Acupuncturist) and Terres Unsoeld in the practices of Tama-Do Colour Healing and Shamanism of Light and, most recently in June 2015, to Chloe Goodchild and the newly unfolding process of The Naked Voice - all great wisdom flowing in to the rich tapestry of sacred sound, self-expression and communion with the Universe.
Sacred Sound helps us to feel more balanced and creative so that we can link with the joy and vitality of our lives. If we can learn to “dissolve” our heavy energy patterns as well as open the way to the vibration of the Universe, we can move into a deeper sense of the limitless freedom and light of All That We Are.
